General Volunteer
Position: Sports & Fitness Expo--Packet Pick Up
Description: Volunteers are assigned to two areas within packet pick up--race packets and T-shirt distribution. Volunteers for race packets must verify participants' identities and give them their race bibs and goody bags. Volunteers for t-shirt distribution hand out race t-shirts to participants.
Time Commitment: Maximum of 4.5 hours on Friday (day before race), maximum of 2 hours on race day.
Check In Location: Sports & Fitness Expo; Virginia Beach Convention Center
What to Wear: Volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Start Line
Description: Volunteers at the 10k start line assist race staff in putting up the start line arch, preparing and securing start corrals, controlling pre-race start crowds, and assisting with corral control and movement during the wave start. Volunteers then reposition to the oceanfront for the Monster Mile start.
Time Commitment: Maximum of 4 hours on race day

What to Wear: Volunteers for this position will be outside for their entire shift and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather. Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Course Marshals
Description: Course Marshal assigments are given primarily to groups, but reinforcements by individuals is also necessary. Course Marshals are assigned to intersections and other critical points to prevent vehicle and pedestrian encroachment on the course during the race. As part of their assignment, Course Marshals are encouraged to cheer on participants and have fun!
Time Commitment: Maximum 3 hours on race day

Position: Finish Line
Description: Volunteers at the finish line assist race staff distributing medals, food, water, and other items to finishers.
Time Commitment: Maximum 4.5 hours on race day
Check In Location: J & A Racing tent; 20th street and boardwalk
What to Wear: Finish line volunteers are outside at the oceanfront for their entire shift and should dress for the existing and forecasted weather. Volunteers will be given volunteer t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: Post Race Party Food
Description: Volunteers for this position will report to the finish line party area to assist the staff from Baker's Crust in distributing chili bread bowls. Tasks include pouring chili into the bread bowls, distributing the food, and helping to control the lines of participants waiting for their food.
Time Commitment: Maximum 5 hours on race day

What to Wear: Volunteers will be given t-shirts and we encourage you to wear comfortable shoes.
Position: General Volunteer
Description: General Volunteers are the "ready reserves" who are assigned to any of the other finish area volunteer positions as the need arises. This is a perfect position for anyone who would like to help, but has no specific position in mind.
Time Commitment: Maximum 5 hours on race day
